Optimus U-31002 Review
With a satisfactory tank capacity and effectiveness that is satisfactory, the Optimus U-31002 can fulfill with your fundamental humidification needs. It's a silent operator and offers a few additional "nice to have" characteristics like a night light, an enclosed cleaning brush that's kept in the foundation, and a long-lasting ceramic filter. As you'll read below, we challenged the function of the ceramic filter that was long-lasting, but we enjoyed this unit for long run-time and its streamlined design. Over time (and multiple cleanings), we started to enjoy the layout a bit less because of the difficulty in reaching all surfaces. Despite cleaning problems, the blend of functionality and characteristics of the Optimus set it in the top four out of our nine competitors.
While we actually enjoy this humidifier as it's among the quietest ones in our examining group while running, we were left disappointed that its appealing layout does not always translate into ease of use in terms of cleaning and refilling.
We put a lot of weight on ease because routine cleanings are crucial to sustaining positive health benefits from humidifier use of cleaning. Sadly, with a 4 of 10 in this metric, its layout does not make anything simpler in terms of weekly and cleaning care jobs.
To start with, the curved top of the tank makes it quite tippy when re-filling cleaning and and needs at least one hand for balance during these endeavors. The little spaces of the foundation also present problems for cleaning.
After one week of daily use with reverse osmosis water that was filtered, we found some pinkish-reddish picture collect close to the brush on the surfaces. Hello, bacteria and mould! Weekly cleaning is called for by the directions for the Optimus. Though we'ren't keen on using harsh chemicals to clean a machine that creates inhaled mist, observable microbe accumulation is not a good deal either. Pick your poison here.
The maker will not supply a recommended place for room humidification. Nevertheless, our tests found that it managed to lift and keep humidity for our testing space of about 120 square feet. Our in-house testing also found that it satisfied our needs for a somewhat bigger space of about 200 square feet.
The U 31002 earned top marks for its exceptionally quiet operation with a score of 9 of 10, putting it in an identical category as Editors' Choice winner, the Sunpentown SU- Best Value, and 4010, the Safety 1st 360. It definitely does not disturb tiredness or sleep ears.
Aside from problem with cleaning, there were many things we enjoyed about the layout of the Optimus.
A great bonus is that the night light functions individually from the mist result. And, along with the night light, there's no "on" light. This is a great edge for slumbering souls who enjoy complete darkness.
The continuously varying mist result knob supplies adequate control over how much mist is wanted. Nevertheless, skill to control mist direction is restricted; like the Crane Drop Contour, the Optimus has just one mist wall socket that is removable.
At 55 inches, the wire length is the shortest of all our humidifiers that are tested and may get some furniture rearranging for close proximity to an outlet. The long-lasting ceramic bead filter does not appear to do anything to reduce debris that is white or remove microbes. It's essentially a little plastic cage holding ceramic beads that are observable the size of blueberries. We were not able find any info in the directions or on the web site describing how this filter functions, nor could we locate outside evidence to demonstrate its effectiveness.
This humidifier is a great choice for you in case you are buying silent, compact unit with a night light. Because of the difficulty in getting all spaces during cleaning, we second the recommendation to use of the instruction manual distilled or filtered water for best results.
The U 31002 is priced in the midrange in comparison with our nine versions that are tested. When operation and its characteristics are taken into account, it supplies somewhat greater-than-typical worth.
The Optimus U 31002 is an exceptionally quiet strong performer with the inclusion of a nice night light and a convenient auto-closed of attribute, but we're left disappointed because of design defects that present themselves during refilling and cleaning of the tank. For about $30 more, contemplate the Sunpentown SU-4010.
