My Pal Scout
Give learning a personal touch with a soft, cuddly puppy pal. Scout is a plush, interactive learning toy that can be personalised to learn your child’s name and favourite songs, colours, food and more. Just connect the pup to a computer and start personalising. Then, turn the teaching over to Scout and explore first words, numbers, daily routines and feelings. As children play with Scout, friendly activities encourage them to talk and sing along. This interaction can help develop early language skills as children start down the path to literacy. My Pal Scout is appropriate for children ages 6-36 months.
Teaches
Learning about numbers: children are introduced to number names and number order through counting games and activities.
Introducing daily routines: learning about daily routines help children develop a sense of time and sequence.
Learning about feelings: even very young children can begin to recognise and express their feelings, as well as the feelings of others.
Play, Laugh and Learn
Enjoyable music, sing-along songs and lullabies are always available at the press of a paw. Press the daytime songs paw to sing along with up to five different, active, upbeat songs. When children are ready for new challenges, parents can connect Scout to a computer and select, download and swap in new tunes. To play learning games with Scout, press the activities paw. The puppy starts the conversation by asking about your child’s favourite things, but the interaction doesn’t stop there.
Scout has lots to say and this includes silly surprises like counting hiccups and pretending to be other animals, as well as more thoughtful communications, like talking about feelings. (For example, Scout might say: “I feel happy; show me your biggest smile”). When it’s time to wind down from the day’s adventures, press the lullabies paw to hear soothing lullaby music. These mellow tunes transition from a day of active learning to quiet nap-time or night time. Once again, parents can choose and change the songs found in the lullabies paw by downloading up to five new melodies and setting Scout for two, five or 10 minutes of blissful bedtime music.
Personalise the Learning Fun
Scout is here to help children learn and you can teach him a few tricks, too. Select your child’s name from a list of thousands and Scout will express his love and friendship by the name you select. Personalise the learning even more by customising Scout with your child’s favourite animal, food and colour. Your pal also stores and plays up to five daytime melodies and five night time lullabies from a selection of more than 30 tunes you can download to Scout.
Parents can connect to the LeapFrog Learning Path for customised learning insights and ideas to expand the learning. For each LeapFrog toy on your child’s path, you can see the skills explored during play and learn about what comes next. With Learning Path, you can get customised emails with learning tips and creative ideas to enrich and inspire more learning adventures and find additional learning toys that match your child’s passions and interests.
OPINIONS:
1. This 20cm high little toy is lots of fun and has loads of features for the price. He's quite cuddly and the right size for the age he is designed for - 6 months to 3 year, with lots of clever touches. I love the fact that they've thought about the fact that you might want to program him whilst in the box, ready for a Christmas day or birthday. This I managed to do on my second attempt - you have to register on the website and add your child's name, an item of food they like from a list and their favourite colour. This worked seamlessly when the headphone jack that does this operation was plugged into my iPhone but failed to work with my laptop - I'm blaming Windows 8.
When you switch the toy on via his paw, your child is greeted with their name, which caused lots of giggles with my little tester - the name also comes into a couple of the songs. The voice is British English which means it's not too grating and the loudspeaker has two levels, always a good touch.
Play wise, the flashing bone bow tie is engaging and a toddler can press the paws fine whilst I found a baby needed assistance - as you would expect really. A nice touch is being able to press his left lower paw to play songs for a fixed amount of time, and the guessing game and songs on the other two paws are fun too.I was really pleasantly surprised by the quality of this toy - the inner workings do make his body a bit non-cuddly but in my experience this isn't an issue.
This isn't going to replace actual interaction/play with your baby or necessarily teach them anything, but it's fun, well designed and the baby visitors to our house seem to love it. Excellent toy.
2. I bought this as a Christmas present for my friends' 1 year old daughter, to try and annoy the hell out of them (the parents, not the child). Disappointly for me, they love it. On the plus side, their daughter does too! Seems to be well made and the sound quality is surprisingly good! Well done LeapFrog :)
3. I got this toy for my grandson when he was six months old. It was too early for him. Now he is two and Scout is one of his favourite toys. It's amazing how he has learnt to manage it. He has discovered how to find the song, the line and everything he wants with this cute toy. You can record name, colour, fruit, animal, etc., and the voice is very pleasant to listen to. The perfect companion in his bed when he wakes up.
4. I originally purchased one of these fab little scouts for my youngest son's first birthday. It's totally personalisable using the leapfrog website & it's easy to download your child's name which is then cleverly incorporated into some of the songs the toy plays. The website asks you your child's favourite colour, food and pet - this information also comes out in a song (which is quite cute).
There are several different functions & you can use it as a night comforter by setting the music to play for a certain amount of minutes. It also has a volume control on the battery pack so if, like my son did a lot, your little one rolls onto it in his sleep it won't suddenly blast out music & waking your sleeping bundle up.
I was so impressed with this toy that I've purchased 3 more since - instead of giving baby clothes to celebrate a birth, my friends all get a My Pal Scout!!
5.
