OPINIONS:
1. This is a super alternative to canvas bouncing cradles in providing a safe place to put an awake, alert baby when mum or dad has to get on with things. Assembly is fairly straightforward, there are clear instructions provided, though once up you may well decide to leave it up as it is a bit fiddly. The swing doesn't take up too much floor space. I liked the fact that it was clear of the ground and placed baby out of draughts at floor level, with the body of the swing providing further protection.
A screwdriver is needed for assembly, though there are just four screws to attach. After a bit of a hunt through the packaging, we found the screws in a small plastic packet attached to one of the support bars of the swing. To activate the rocking motion and accompanying music of the swing you will also need 4 C type batteries. These are the round torch -type batteries.
The swing is lined with a padded, neutral beige and white fabric which is very soft and thankfully unisex. No bold clashing over-bright colours here, which is a bit of visual relief given that this seems to be what most baby equipment of today uses. The liner is sensibly machine washable.
The gentle rocking motion is very soothing; a fractious 3 week old baby was soothed to sleep and this allowed Mum a much needed break from carrying the little one around. Hopefully this magic effect will continue for the next few months. For the sanity of parents the music volume is adjustable so that it can be quietly playing in the background, rather than swamping conversation.
It's perfectly safe for baby to take a nap in this and rather difficult to prevent them nodding off, in my opinion, though it's not designed for long periods of sleep.Read more ›
2. We bought this when our little guy was a month old. We'd been up all night way too much, and spent countless times rocking him to sleep without much avail, and with either an impending back problem or the possibility of breaking something through frustration, we got this. High hopes and a lot of pressure, especially given the price.
We used this sort of sparingly to start with, using it mostly in the evening to help him go to sleep when we'd run out of energy. He managed to get a decent amount of sleep and it didn't sap all of our energy to make it happen. It worked really well, but hasn't worked much recently, just because he's more distracted by the real world and the movement!
I would recommend this for the early stages, i.e. newborn, because it really helps get them to sleep, and saves you from holding them for a long time. There were times when we would put him in it and crank it up to the max setting and he'd be out like a light within a minute or two.
There are some down-sides. The clicking noise it makes when you switch it on is pretty loud, and turning it off usually woke him up. The legs feel a little bit wobbly sometimes, you have to lock them into place. The head rest didn't seem that comfy once the newborn head support was removed.
All in all it's helped us a tremendous amount, and has been worth the money. I would recommend it to anyone who has a newborn. Your use of it will definitely outlast the batteries!
3. I have a very lively, very aware little 8 week old baby girl, and she loves her playmat and bouncy chair, but if I leave her side for a minute then she gets upset... regardless of how dry, full, rested and windfree she might be, she just loves company! And I don't mind this one bit but sometimes I NEED to leave her, to get a bottle, to pee etc. I got this today, it was simple to set up using a cross head screwdriver. She had a nap in it and was sound asleep for a couple of hours which was great for me to get some chores done. She woke up happy, and later I was able, after making sure she was secure and safe, to leave her to make a bottle, to use the loo, and later again to make a drink, with no immediate crying as usual. She was definitely entertained, and though she did eventually start to fuss, she wasn't frantic and was easily settled. I feel really positive about this product, especially as she is windy baby and rocking helps her, and because she is very clingy so I'm hoping it helps her feel more at ease when I'm not holding her. The only issue I have is that the instructions weren't very clear about using the music button, but it was easily figured out by pressing it several times to change the tune etc, and also the animals on the toy bar are the wrong way round and the bar won't fit securely any other way, but she has lots of toys from her mat and bouncy chair to hang from it so I'm not too worried... I hope she gets lots out of it, I just wish they made them in an adult size, would make chill time fun :D another plus is it doesn't creak!!! Time will tell but after thinking these things were gimmicks I think it might actually help us.
4. My friend's baby tried this out, and was immediately soothed, and quietly interested in the toys. My friend said it was nice to have a break, knowing that that her baby was safe and being entertained, without any effort on her part. I think what is especially great about this swing is that you can change the speeds of the rocking, and the volume of the music, so you can change the swing to your baby's mood. It is a good sturdy swing, well made, and it is also attractive, with nice colours. For the price, I think it is excellent.
